California timecard review checklist

A practical, source-first checklist for reviewing California punch and timecard exports.

1. Confirm the source export.

  • Identify the system, export date, timezone, and fields supplied.
  • Preserve the original file and document any transformations.
  • Check whether edits, attestations, schedules, pay data, or policy records sit outside the export.

2. Validate coverage and quality.

  • Compare employee and date coverage to the requested scope.
  • Inspect missing punches, duplicates, overlapping shifts, and inconsistent identifiers.
  • Record assumptions used to reconstruct shifts.

3. Review patterns and source records.

  • Start with aggregate timing, frequency, and concentration.
  • Open representative and high-frequency findings at the punch level.
  • Record confirm, exclude, and unresolved decisions with notes.

4. Package the work.

Export findings, selected evidence, reviewer decisions, methodology, and limitations as a connected review record.
